Winklhofers profi ethos

More than 100 years ago, Johann Baptist Winklhofer (1859–1949) was living the principles of a successful entrepreneur. His “Commandments for those striving for progress” are more relevant today than ever.

They can still serve as a guideline for dedicated professionals. Winklhofer also emphasizes the importance of customer care.

Johann Baptist WinklhoferWinklhofer, born in Munich, founded several companies, including Wanderer in Chemnitz together with Rudolf Adolf Jaenicke, which later merged with three other companies to form the Audi company. Outside of automobile production, Winklhofer was a leader in the development of typewriters and bicycles, where he held several patents. The following “10 Commandments for those Striving for Progress” were taken from a poster by the Audi company in Ingolstadt, and the portrait was also taken from their website.

  • The basic requirement is a thorough understanding of one's own profession.

  • The ambition to make everything better than anyone else can.

  • Adherence to the principle that only the best can be delivered to the customer for his money.

  • There must always be a never-ending joy in the work.

  • Always keep up with the latest working methods and use the very best equipment in the company.

  • The majority of the money earned must be used to acquire these business-promoting means.

  • Put the right man in the right place.

  • Live simply and solidly, so that you can start work early with a fresh mind.

  • Get used to the fact that you can't or don't have to do every business.

  • Finally, it also takes a lot of patience to wait for the success of your efforts, even when things sometimes look desolate.
